Student sitting at desk NEWMARK SOCIAL SCIENCE PROGRAM

Newmark offers courses in US History, US Government, and Economics which are UC approved to fulfill A-G and graduation requirements. Students are invited to make choices about topics and engage project-based learning by collaborating with peers, working in small groups, and participating in class discussion about current events.

SOCIAL JUSTICE, CULTURE, & FOOD

New in Spring semester 2020, Newmark offers a reinvented Principles of Democracy course to provide students an introduction to the food service and hospitality industry through the lens of government and social justice.

Designed to fulfill the A-G requirements of Ethnic Studies, Sociology, Government and Economics, the course prepares students to enter the food service industry with an understanding of the impact contemporary issues hold on the industry.

In class, students will explore the connection between the food service industry and current events. With a hands-on approach to learning how to prepare food, students will analyze the relationship between culture, history, and food. Students discuss issues and how they might fix them as they investigate cultural foods and business ethics.
